Pat Cummins Poised for a Significant Contribution in Ashes Series

Pat Cummins bowling

The Australian skipper has secured over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chair of selectors George Bailey has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming Ashes series.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that was still troubling him.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest set to start on the 21st of November in Western Australia.

He revealed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the likelihood of taking part.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and there are permutations involved, not only the back issue, but other factors as well," he commented.

"We're encouraged. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a key capacity. Ideally starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Injury History

Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against New Zealand and India in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.

There is a track record of spinal problems, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns leading to absences from three Australian summers in a limited period.

The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to make the squad for the series.

He mentioned that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the first Test.

Contingency Plans

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.

The talented all-rounder was recently pulled out from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "small issue and mentioned that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."

"We put so much time has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the first Test as an all-rounder," he elaborated.

"He was only going to play the first two ODIs anyway. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for another day, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
